The golden sun is called Roj. Sun veneration is documented in Kurdish religious tradition: in Yezidism the faithful pray facing the sun and venerate a sun angel, Şêx Şems. Whether the flag sun descends directly from ancient sun cults is a widely repeated interpretation, not a documented design lineage.
